Utah Governor Spencer Cox confirmed Friday the arrest of the alleged murderer of American conservative activist Charlie Kirk, identifying him as Tyler Robinson.
“We have it,” the governor said at a press conference. On Thursday evening, he said, “a family member” of the suspect reached a family friend, who then contacted authorities to inform them that “Robinson had confessed to them or implied his involvement” in the killing. According to CNN, it was his father who turned him in after his son confessed to him that he was the shooter. He held him back until the police arrived.
“Last night, at 22:00 local time, the suspect was arrested,” 33 hours after the murder, said Kash Patel, director of the FBI, the federal police.
Another family member testified that “Robinson had become more politicized in recent years,” the governor added. He pointed to a recent conversation with a relative in which Tyler Robinson had mentioned Charlie Kirk's upcoming visit to Utah for a public debate on a college campus and shared his hostility to him and his views.
